‘Cumberbatch’ – Pen on pastel paper – 25 x 18 cm
My sister is a real fan* of Benedict Cumberbatch, so what better birthday gift than a sketch of the man himself. I often struggle with getting true likenesses in portraits, hence why I normally stick to landscapes and studies. However I’m quite happy with how this one turned out, especially the style. It’s always a bit risky using ink, once you’ve done the base drawing you don’t really want to risk ruining it. I particularly like the eyes, they’re quite simple in the sense that I was aiming to use as few lines as possible to get them right.
* Read as ‘obsessed’
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Mr. Cumberbatch, I suggest you catch up on the first two series’ of ‘Sherlock’, you won’t regret it…
